Ap Psychology Ch. 8 Learning Flashcards
Law of Effect
(Thorndike) we will repeat behaviors that make us feel good and avoid things that make us feel bad
Continuous Reinforcment
everytime a behavior is repeated, a reward is given (good for establishing behavior)
Partial Reinforcement
reinforcing a response only part of the time (greater for avoiding extinction)
Chaining
putting all the individual shaped behaviors together
Principle of the Goal Gradient
the more closely a reinforcement, the more impact it has on that behavior
Premack Principle
you take a behavior you dont want to do and reinforce it with a behavior you do want to do
Intervening Variable
something that disrupts your performance
Law of Contiguity
if 2 things happen at the same time, we associate them together
Aquisition
when you add learning (aquiring) the conditioned response
Inter-Stimulus Interval
the amount of time that passes between the presentation of the CS and the UCS
Cognitive Processes
CS predicts or sets up expectancy about the UCS (Rescorla and Wagner)
Congitive Map
representation of the enviornment around you
Insight Learning
(Kohler) all of the sudden the solution of concept "clicks"
Overjustification Effect
reward someone for doing something they already love takes the joy out if it
