Human Innumodeficiency Virus
Bacteria
microbes or germs, one celled organisms
Pathogenic
harmful microorganisms that can cause disease and infection in humans, when they invade the body
Non-pathogenic
harmless microorganisms that may perform useful functions and are safe to come into contact with
Virus
parasitic submicroscopic particles that infects and resides in cells of biologial organisms
Blood borne pathogen
pathogens, or disease causing microorganisms crried in the body by blood or bodily fluids, ex, HIV, hepatitis
Communicable Disease
Diseases that are transferable from one person to another
Parasites
Organisms that grow, feed, and shelter in or on another organism
Scabies
Contagious skin disease that is caused by the inch Mike, it burrows under your skin
Acquired Immunity
Unity that the body develops after overcoming a disease or through inoculation or vaccine.
Universal precautions
Set of guidelines published by OSHA that require the employer and employee to assume that all human blood and body fluids are infectious for blood-borne pathogen's
Decontamination
The removal of blood or other potentially infectious materials on an items surface and the removable of visible debris or residue such as dirt or hair
Sterilization
The process that completely destroys all micro bacterial life
Disinfection
Chemical products that destroy all bacteria
Sanitation
Sanitizing, which is reducing the number of disease causing germs
Quaternary ammonium compounds
Disinfectant that are very effective when used correctly
Sodium hypochlorite
Common household bleach, and effective disinfectant for a hair salon
Cocci
Round shaped bacteria that appear singly or in groups. Three types are staphlococci, streptococci, and diplococci.
Bacilli
Rod shaped bacteria
Spirilla
Spiral or corkscrew shaped bacteria
Flagella
Slender, hair-like extensions that permit locomotion in certain bacteria
